7 out of 10 people I meet tell me they are looking for a job.

If you just look through the newspaper you will see so many companies are laying off thousands of their employees.

Not many who graduated from college are getting hired. Only a few exceptional ones with real skills or luck are being hired.

The ones who tell me who are “looking for a job” are not actually looking for a job. They are just scrolling through different job sites or apps like Indeed, LinkedIn, Glassdoor, etc…, and clicking apply to random jobs for 5 minutes a day, and after that, they spend their whole time watching movies and scrolling through garbage.

Their definition of “looking for a job” is itself a mess.

If you are one of those who is “looking for a job” just stop doing what you are doing.

You are not gonna get hired if you just keep doing this shit.

Stop it and do these 2:

ONE:

Start doing a course, you don’t have to take any paid course. There are plenty of sites offering free courses. To name a few,

Coursera
Great Learning
Khan Academy
Udemy
Udacity
Simplilearn
FreeCodeCamp
YouTube (Plenty of amazing YouTubers are teaching everything for free on YouTube make use of that. Instead of scrolling Shorts and watching craps make use of your time).

I just named a few sites that I know but there are many more. A simple Google search will give the list of all the websites.

TWO:

Start a side hustle. Yes, you will never know how long it is going to take for you to get a job. You have just completed college and you are left with plenty of time what else is there for you to do other than start a side hustle?

In your current scenario, starting a side hustle is not an option it’s a necessity.

Your family is dependent on you. If you are just gonna keep scrolling and wasting your time you are going to regret so much.

So, now you may say, “Okay Ali, I am convinced tell me what course I should take and what side hustle I should start because I am a complete newbie?”

Don’t worry, I got you.

Let me tell you what I would do if I was in your scenario.

So, my field is Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. I completed college, didn’t learn much from college, haven’t got a job yet, and I am just sitting at home.

The first thing I would do is,

Go to YouTube and search, “Python Full Course for Beginners”.
I will choose the most-rated video and start learning Python because my field is AI and ML. (If your field is Web Development and you don’t know anything about it, you should search for “HTML Full Course”, if you are into CyberSecurity search, “CyberSecurity Course for Beginners”).
Once I learn Python, I will start learning Python libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, and Seaborn. (For web developers you need to start learning CSS and JS after learning HTML).
Now, I will start learning the Machine Learning Fundamentals. The best to I found to learn ML fundamentals is Kaggle, I talked about it deeply in one of my old articles check that out here👇

5. After learning the Fundamentals I will start building projects. If you don’t know what type of projects to do check out this👇

6. Completing all this would have taken me like 3 months. But now I know something. This is when you should start your side hustle. Now you developed a skill, you have the expertise, and you did something that not so many people do.

7. It’s time to share your work. Whenever you do a project write an article about it and publish it on Medium. It helps you and the people who are on the same path as you. It is a win-win. Why Medium you may ask? Because I don’t know any other platform that pays for writing articles.

I know you need to get a Medium Membership to get paid but don’t focus on that now, just focus on writing articles and helping your fellow people. When you gain a good amount of followers get the monthly Membership it doesn’t cost much and you will get 10x the amount you spend in a month if just 100 people read your articles every day.

8. Now you have a skill and you have a side hustle. It’s time to keep iterating. Take more courses and learn new skills, teach what you learned to your people, and get paid for doing it.

9. Once you have a good amount of audience you can start many more side hustles like,

Starting a YouTube Channel.
Create digital products such as ebooks, notion templates, etc… and sell them on online stores like Gumroad, Etsy, etc…
Create a Fiverr account and start offering freelance services.
Create a Newsletter on platforms like Substack, beehive, etc…, build a loyal subscriber base, and monetize your newsletters through paid subscriptions.
Create an Online Course and sell it on platforms like SkillShare, Kajabi, etc…

Now you don’t have to search for jobs, companies will come searching for you. You have created an online portfolio that will speak for you.

I know how bad it feels to stay home not able to do anything for our loved ones. I don’t want that for you.
